How does laser hair reduction work?
Our laser hair reduction treatments target hair follicles in the active growth phase of the hair growth cycle and use laser energy to permanently disable hair follicles and prevent future hair growth. In order to achieve optimal results of this treatment, we recommend patients avoid plucking or waxing hair in the designated treatment area for at least a week prior to a laser hair reduction treatment session.
Common treatment areas include:
- Face
- Upper Lip
- Chin
- Arms
- Hands
- Neck
- Sideburns
- Eyebrows
- Chest
- Underarms
- Bikini
- Legs
- Feet
- Back
How many treatments will I need?
We typically recommend at least six to eight laser hair reduction treatments spaced about four to six weeks apart. The number of recommended treatments can vary from patient to patient depending on the size of the area being treated and the thickness of the hair in the designated treatment area. In order to achieve optimal hair reduction, multiple treatment sessions are required because the laser energy disables hair follicles in the active growth phase and each hair follicle grows at a different rate. Some patients may require additional touch-up treatments to maintain their results. Results may vary.
Are there any side effects?
You may experience some redness, swelling, or irritation, similar to razor burn or a mild sunburn, in the treated area immediately following a treatment session. These side effects are temporary and typically resolve on their own within a few days of a laser hair reduction treatment session. We encourage patients to use cool water, ice packs, or anti-inflammatory creams to reduce any discomfort they may experience in the days following a treatment session.
Am I a candidate?
Laser hair reduction is not an effective treatment for all patients. If you have red, white, grey, or blonde hair, you are not a candidate for laser or light-based hair reduction treatments due to the lack of melanin in the hair follicles.
